Frequestly Asked Questions

How can I benefit from Rehearsalnet's Library?
Each musical selection is carefully sequenced and great attention is paid to making sure that the most difficult places are addressed thoroughly with several different educational approaches. Most files have a preparatory file at different metronomic speeds and also a rubato file which allows for freedom yet maintains ensemble by means of the integration of wood block cues in specific spots. The wood block cues help the soloist to hear where they control the flow of the music.

Do you make custom files?

Yes. If you do not see the files you are looking for, please use our request form for special requests.

What if I need to have my songs done at an unusual tempo which the library doesn't offer?
Simply make a special request and include the metronomic tempo which you desire. It shouldn't take long to make that adjustment.

Why is there silence at the beginning of my files?
As a general rule, we put a five-second silence at the beginning of each file. This allows the performer time to start playing the file on a Rehearsalnet MIDICart, a Yamaha Disklavier®, or an MP3 or CD player. Please begin playback of each file at a low level, and wait for at least 10 seconds before raising the volume, especially if you are using headphones.

Am I allowed to make copies of these files for my friends?
No, in fact, at the time you download one of our files, you will have already accepted terms of a written agreement which explains the licensing procedure. For example, if you are a violin teacher, you may not distribute copies of these files to your students; you may only use the single download for your use.

I've downloaded a file but can't open it. What should I do?
All Rehearsalnet files are stored as ZIP files and may be opened by any standard ZIP file opener such as WinZIP or Expander.

Why aren't there more modern pieces in the library, such as the Corigliano Violin Sonata?
Since we are in our infancy and have not yet obtained copyright licensing for works written in the last 75 years, we are not allowed to license these more recent works to our customers. However, after a period of time, we will be obtaining the proper licensing to allow legal downloading of these works. If you have a particular work in mind, please request it and we will notify you when it is available.

Why don't your files 'follow' the soloist, like other companies' products?
We believe that these files should serve an educational purpose. The files are created by a University Professor and Concert Artist who knows the music on an expert level. The customer who downloads our files will benefit from hand-crafted files which lead the customer in the right direction. We liken our files to a batting cage or which delivers phrases to the musician who then, in turn, reacts to them and develops more heightened listening skills. These files are intended to prepare musicians for their first rehearsals with fellow musicians; as opposed to replacing humans, they are designed to help the first rehearsal be a more informed meeting which enables the players to get to the next level of music making more easily.

Is this site secure?
Yes. Payment information is captured and encrypted through a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) through Thawte ( www.thawte.com ).

Why do some works have so many tracks and others don't?
In preparing the works, certain discoveries are made which prompt the creator of the files to include supplemental tracks such as the offbeat, skeletal or sectional tracks. If a particular work does not have a track that you might want, please request it and it can be prepared for you.

What if my file doesn't work when I try it in my computer?
Simply contact our technical support and we will try to help you get past any glitches which may be preventing your computer from playing the files.

What if my edition doesn't match the edition that is used when the files are created?
If we do not have access to the proper edition, and you are unable to use our file because of this fact, then we may ask you to mail us your part in order to make sure that the file is created to your satisfaction.
